Allowing Businesses to Grow in Pennsylvania
I’ve authored a bill that would increase apprenticeship opportunities around the state and allow businesses to grow! Thanks to ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) Keystone, which recently hosted a tour of its Lancaster County headquarters and a roundtable discussion of my apprenticeship legislation.
We were able to highlight the bottlenecks which keep young tradesmen and women from entering apprenticeships. While the news touts new programs, the number of apprenticeships in Pennsylvania have actually declined since 2019, and our return on investment (ROI) is negative.

Filling the Jobs of the Future at Cumberland/Perry CTC
I was happy and honored to be included in Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony for expansion of the Cumberland-Perry Area Vocational Technical School. It was a great community effort between school leaders, businesses and the state that was seven years in the making.
We were celebrating the future, knowing this is just the beginning of the need to alleviate the wait list for career and technical education schools in our region.

Carlisle Events Corvette Show
Carlisle was crowded for last Friday’s Corvette parade. Thanks to Bill and Lance Miller and the entire Carlisle events staff and volunteers for hosting another wonderful event, which brought many visitors from all over the nation into town.
I enjoyed riding in the 1959 front car with Bill and his grandson and visiting with constituents. More than 500 cars from across the country registered for the parade this year.

Meeting with DEP’s Southcentral Representative
Robert Digilarmo, the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEPs) new District 8 director, recently took the time to meet with legislators and their staff and field questions about pending projects and issues. Robert has been with DEP for more than 30 years. He introduced us to his department staff members and explained what they do.
Pennsylvania has 18,300 farms which cover 2.4 million acres. One-third of the farms are located in the southcentral region of the state.

Remember, It’s Safe2Say Something
With schools now back in session, it’s important to remind students, parents, teachers and community members about the Safe2Say Something program, which was established to offer an anonymous resource to report behavior perceived to be threatening to an individual or a school entity.
In addition to potential threats, the program has also received reports of issues such as bullying, anxiety, depression and suicide.
For more information or to submit a report, call 1-844-Saf2Say or visit safe2saypa.org. You can also download the “SafeToSay Something PA” app.
