Gleim Disappointed by House Democrats’ Move to Avoid Voting on the Save Women’s Sports Act

July 8, 2025

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland), author of House Bill 158 (the Protect Women’s Sports Act), issued the following statement after House Democrat leadership re-referred Senate Bill 9 (the Save Women’s Sports Act), to the House Health Committee.

“The decision by House Democrat leaders and members of the House Education Committee who voted in favor of shifting Senate Bill 9 to another committee are ignoring the voices of women and girls who deserve the protections it gives them. They are also turning a deaf ear to the voices of an overwhelming number of Pennsylvanians who do not want biological men participating in women’s sports.

“House Democrats are disregarding President Donald Trump’s executive order which ‘oppose(s) male competitive participation in women’s sports more broadly.’ Furthermore, they are risking the ‘(rescindment of) all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities.

“This is an education issue which has everything to do with safety and maintaining opportunities for women athletes, while fulfilling the goals of Title IX. The majority party has no intention of moving Senate Bill 9 or my House Bill 158, and I’m disappointed with their decision to avoid taking up the legislation and thus disrespecting women and girls.”
