Gleim, Rothman Announce CFA Grant for Carlisle Borough

February 25, 2025

HARRISBURG - Carlisle Borough has been awarded a $675,000 grant for infrastructure improvements by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), according to state Sen. Greg Rothman (R-34) and Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland). The award will support the Carlisle Noble Boulevard School Zone Shared-Use Path Project.

“Sen. Rothman and I are proud to support this project, which is a collaboration between the borough and the Carlisle Area School District to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety for residents and students,” Gleim said. “The plan in place will make school walkable for many students, as well as create a safer environment for seniors. The North Hanover Street intersection with Noble Boulevard is one of the most dangerous in the state, and we are taking steps to remedy that.”

“These infrastructure improvements will make the area safer for all residents, especially students and seniors” Rothman said. “I was glad to advocate for and support this important project.”

The Carlisle Noble Boulevard School Zone Shared-Use Path Project hopes to promote alternative transportation, reduce stormwater runoff volume, and expand access and interconnectivity to and between trail networks, isolated neighborhoods, commercial retail, restaurants, public services, and transportation.

The CFA, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, approves grants like this through their Multimodal Transportation Fund. The purpose of the program is to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to residents across Pennsylvania.

Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
